Welcome to our website, part of the work towards developing a House Sparrows Species Action Plan for the Richmond Biodiversity Partnership. In London, house sparrow numbers fell by a shocking 68% between 1994 and 2000. The decline in numbers has been so dramatic that sparrows are now “red-listed” as a species of high conservation concern.

The Richmond House Sparrow Project is a new initiative to help understand, support and increase the sparrow population in the Borough and to explore why such a rapid decrease in numbers has been occurring. We value the help of the public to report their local sightings! The project will also develop an Action Plan which will define the problem and set out actions to protect House Sparrows and improve conditions for them, such as improving habitats and working with significant landowners and householders in the Borough.
